Several changes have also been made to family fraternal benefits for members with permanent whole-life policies:

• Insured members with hard-to-insure or uninsurable children previously had the opportunity to purchase the Guaranteed-Issue Policy for $5,000. This benefit has increased to $10,000 and insured members who have already purchased a $5,000 policy can purchase an additional $5,000 of coverage on eligible children.
• Insured members whose children are stillborn after 20 weeks or die within 60 days of birth are now eligible to receive $5,000, compared to the previous $1,500.

In addition, the Order’s orphan fraternal benefit for the children of insured members has been significantly enhanced. The monthly stipend to cover care and living expenses for each eligible orphan through age 18, previously $80, is now $500. The benefit also provides a college scholarship — previously $1,750 a year, now $5,000 a year, up to a maximum of $20,000 over four years.
