Families in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine recently received care packages that were assembled by Knights of Columbus in Poland. In the days following the liberation of cities such as Kupiansk and Balakliya in September, Grand Knight Yevgen Khailov of Poltava (Ukraine) Council 16649 traveled with a friend to deliver the packages to families in need — at one point coming under fire by Russian soldiers fleeing the region.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine last February, the Knights of Columbus Ukraine Solidarity Fund has raised more than $19 million toward direct humanitarian relief benefiting refugees and those displaced. The Order continues to work with our councils in Poland and Ukraine, as well as the Latin and Greek Catholic Churches in Ukraine and partner organizations, to identify and meet ongoing needs.
